Autumn NOTD

Since having a baby, what summer is has changed for me. It's no longer drinking beers on a patio somewhere, taking night walks and participating in general, warm-weather shenanigans. Now it's more, um, do the same stuff every day except not hate it as much going outside because I'm not freezing to absolute death. I loved summer. Like, loved loved it. I dreamed about it during every other season. And I still do, really, it's just different.

So, the fact that it's going to start getting colder doesn't affect me as much because, like I said, it's not really going to change how I spent my days. No more hiding from thunderstorms or hordes of spiders, so that's pretty cool. Also Fall is my second fave (maybe first fave-tied) so, you know, whatever. It's all peachy. OH PLUS APPLE PIEEE.

Here's an Autumn inspired NOTD using a bunch of untrieds I have.

Starting from the tip, there's:
China Glaze -Xtreme Thrash
Sally Hansen - Chop Chop Copper
OPI - London Bridge is Falling Brown (also on index finger)
Layla - Softouch Effect 11
OPI - DS Illuminate
and the dark brown underneath it all is Barielle - Coco Bar.

Looking through my polish stash on Pinterest, I have sooo many flipping fall colors I haven't tried yet. Geez Louise, guys! I need to get it together.

Barielle Orange Parfait & Pure Ice Heartbreaker

Hi friendos.

I was thinking about doing an ombre mani... gradient mani... that mani where a dark version of a color blends delightfully into a light version of said color. But I didn't. Instead, I painted a layer of Heartbreaker over Orange Parfait and ended up with this:

This was in the sun, I swears.
Orange Parfait looks like a creamy coral in the bottle but actually dries a bit darker and brighter on the nail WHICH I didn't get a picture of. I dug it as-was. However, Heartbreaker rules hard, especially over orangey polishes I've found. It's all, oh I'm so shimmery and green!

Two coats of Orange Parfait, one coat of Heartbreaker except on ring finger which had 3.
The formula was Orange Parfait was just a touch thick but not so much in a bad way. I didn't think I was going to like this color much until I swatched it for my never-ending swatch book.

Shade. Heartbreaker duo-chrome-ness.
I bought Heartbreaker long before I was super into the, you know, polish lifestyle. I tried wearing it by itself and was pretty confused by its inability to be seen except for in bright light. I guess it was maybe kind of obvious that it's meant for layering anyway, despite being new at nail things. Whatever. I know now, okay? I learned. I learned the ways of the sneaky topcoat.

A story:
I hate spiders. I have this insane irrational terror of the little bastards. It's bad. It's considering-going-to-a-hypnotist-about-it bad. SO, I'm cleaning my apartment yesterday and I notice this piece of cotton-looking fluff on one of my kid's sandals. I go to remove it and BAM this seriously blink-fast spider (that was by no means small) jumps out from under a sandal-flap and basically I unloaded a can of bug spray onto it which was real dumb because then I had to barricade that area so my put-everything-in-his-mouth child wouldn't insecticide to death. Spiders are THE WORST. I don't even like seeing the word. Have you seen those? The kinds that make these webs with holes going into them that they crawl out of. Heebie to the jeebie. I can't stop shuddering. I'm from Ohio, okay. I know Ohio spiders are little sissy spiders compared to, say, Texas spiders. They're still just awful.

What is today, even? Friday? All right, well, do have a wondrous weekend!

Barielle Jillian's Jammin is my new favorite

So, I went on my first dusty hunt and it was AWESOME. More on that tomorrow...

Today, however, I offer you a beeee-aaaaa-uuuu-tiful polish from Barielle, a company I had never heard of until two days ago. I was shopping at the local Marshall's and came upon a couple boxes of 5-pack polishes for $8. The pack I bought contained Coco Bar, a chocolate brown creme; Orange Parfait, a warm coral creme; Angelic, a somewhat gummy baby pink; Glammed Out Garnet, a jewel-toned magenta glass fleck and this:

Jillian's Jammin (<3!!!!)
Jillian's Jammin is so dang pretty I don't even know where to start. Around the very edges of the bottle you can see the green-tinted base, and the picture there doesn't do even a little bit of justice to the cerulean/violet duochrome glass fleck action. I've seen pictures of this swatched without a darker coat underneath and felt like it didn't bring a lot of justice to the beauty of this polish, so I swatched it layered over Sally Hansen Gem-Stone.

Two coats of Jillian's Jammin over one coat of Gem-Stone, Seche Vite'd

Flash. Loooook atttt ittttt.

Looooooooooooooooook.

Hello, purple!
It took a minute for me to find the right lighting condition to be able to coax the violet out. I had painted my nails last night in artificial light and the color shift was constant. It was actually harder for me to find the bright blue through the violet. My camera also wasn't cooperating with the subtle shifts.

I mean, this polish is seriously gorgeous. I will definitely experiment with layering it over other dark colors. I'm super happy I picked the pack up, especially since none of the other colors blew me away. I would definitely have paid $8 just for this polish alone and I'm thrifty as ffffff.

Teaser for tomorrow: DV8 and Blue Moon Lagoon.
